Virtual Summer School IPIREL UMY: An Innovation of Internationalizing UMY’s Values

Yogyakarta — Sunday (08/08/2021) The International Program of International Relations UMY has been held Virtual Summer School 2021 with raise three special courses: Southeast Asia Studies, International Social Movement, and Islam and International Relations. This event is an opportunity for IPIREL UMY students and other students worldwide to meet and learn with the expert on the issue. The Summer School of this year is held entirely online from July until August of 2021.

“During the pandemic, the challenges faced by educational institutions became much more difficult, especially in terms of the teaching and learning system. However, this would not reduce the quality of education provided by UMY.” So stated the Rector of UMY, Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, MP, IPM, while commenting on the Online Summer School 2021 Opening Ceremony. Gunawan added more that through this program, it is hoped that we can continue to improve our knowledge, academic atmosphere, maintain brotherly ties and relations internationally.

International Relations Virtual Summer School (IRViSS) focuses on three pivotal issues in International Relations, i. e. International relations in Southeast Asia with Prof. Dr. Bambang Cipto MA, Dr. Takdir Ali Mukti as the tutor, then International Social Movements with Prof. Dr. Tulus Warsito, Dr. Nur Azizah as the tutor, and Islam and International relations with Prof. (Assoc) Dr. Surwandono, and Dr. Sidek Jatmika as the tutor. Several lecturers will teach these courses from the Department of International Relations, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Moreover, each course is equal to three credits and will be transferred to the home university.

There are a lot of participants excited to join this event around 693 participants from 39 countries all around the world there are; Bangladesh, Barbados, Belgium, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Colombia, Fiji, Philippines, Gambia, Germany, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Laos, Malaysia, Mauritius, Egypt, Mexico, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Poland, Qatar, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Uganda, Vietnam and Jordan.

This program is an innovation of study abroad in this pandemic situation. Students can have brilliant knowledge and experience through this excellent implementation of Virtual Summer School, and also UMY will shine bright on its relations internationally. May the next UMY Summer School will be more successful and improved significantly.
