May 5, 2021, is commemorated as Indonesia-Made Pride Day, which has just been established by the Ministry of Communication and Information and the Ministry of Trade. “The implementation of the online BBI Day is expected to make it easier for people to meet their needs during the Holy Month of Ramadan and ahead of the Idul Fitri. Furthermore, by shopping online, it is also hoped that the community’s mobility will decrease,” said Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G. Plate.

In addition to Indonesia Made Proud Day (BBI), May 5 also commemorates International Midwife Day 2021. May 5 as World Midwife Day has been started since the 80s but was formally inaugurated in 1992. One of the purposes of commemorating this World Midwife Day is to campaign for the vital role of midwives in human life, especially those related to childbirth and reproductive health. World Midwife Day is also used as a measure for improving the quality of existing midwives. Midwives have a critical role not only for pregnant women but also for the entire community.

Reporting from Tirto, midwives also play a role in increasing the status of women, such as through contraceptive services, giving immunizations to babies and reducing maternal mortality (AKI). (F)
