Departement on International Relations, UMY Once Again Conducted a Community Service Program to Davao

Departement on International Relations, UMY has conducted an international Community Service Program to Davao, Philippines. For this program, UMY collaborated with Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Philippines and the University of Ate Neo de Davao. The International Community Service Program was first embarked in 2016, this year is their third period. There are 29 UMY students participated in the program this year.

Head of International Relations Departement, Dr. Nur Azizah, M.Si, stated that the international community service will be executed in Davao City of Philippines with the main goal of community empowerment to help the communities in Davao, especially the PIDs (Persons of Indonesian Descent) and the minor Muslim community. Dr. Nur Azizah, M.Si added “Davao has a lot of PIDs, some has become the citizen of Philippines but they’re also others that deals with uncitizenship, this program will then provide care and lot of positive contributions in hope to give benefit to the local communities. Through this program, students will conduct a variant of empowerment methods in economy and social culture, such as managing foods, introducing Indonesian culture to the PIDs, etc.”

Not only for the local community Dr. Nur Azizah, M.Si, has expressed a high expectancy that the 29 students who participated this year can acquires many advantages and international experience related to international relations program. Like how to deal with problems in foreign country, live with its people, how to adapt and communicate with them. “Thus, on behalf of the Departement, we will facilitate the International Community Service program so that they can bring benefits to the communities in Davao.” Ended Dr. Nur Azizah, M.Si.
