Student from Brazil joined the Orientation Week

Nathàlia Melissa, a student of International Program of International Relations (IPIREL) from Brazil. She joined the orientation week (MATAF) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta from August 21st – 26th 2017.
She said that she had the first real sight of how both an Islamic and a higher education institution in Indonesia from this agenda. Nathàlia stated, “It was clearly different of what I have faced in Brazil when enrolling to a university”. She was asked to give the speech in the opening ceremony of MATAF, on the stage together with other international students. ” It was such an honor to be one of the representatives of UMY’s students by receiving the
uniform on the stage”. She was also a bit surprised about how the fact of a foreigner being there caught the other students’ attention, but she believed it possibly just happened for the first contact they had, later she will be seen just as one more of them. However she was truly enjoyed her first day of activities in the campus.
IPIREL as the first international program in UMY, admittes around 80 students per year, both domestic and foreign students. Until today IPIREL hosts more than 10 foreign exchange students from countries in South East Asia, China, Taiwan, South Korea and Europe, every semester, and around 3-6 regular foreign students every year. They come from Thailand, Turkey, Rwanda, and this year, from Brazil. (AN)
